What is Hypnosis?

We all experience the hypnotic state in our everyday lives – have you ever driven home and not remembered anything about the journey, been engrossed in a book or just been immersed in nature and not been conscious of time passing? If so, you’ve been in a state of focused attention which is similar to the feeling of being hypnotised.  In this relaxed state, your mind is more responsive to suggestions which can help you to change unhelpful thoughts and behaviour patterns.

Clients often comment about how “ordinary” hypnosis feels – it’s not unlike daydreaming – you can often hear everything that is being said whilst in a deeply relaxed state. In fact, you could think of it as guided daydreaming.

Contrary to the image portrayed in films, books and the media, I can’t and wouldn’t want to take control of your mind! No one can hypnotise you against your will and nobody can make you do anything you don’t want to – your subconscious mind will simply reject any suggestion that is inappropriate for you.

How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

You will only have as many sessions as you want or need – Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is very effective and most people see substantial changes within just a few sessions. However, the number of sessions required will depend on your individual circumstances and what you want to change/achieve and this will be discussed at your initial consultation.

What can I expect in my sessions?

The initial consultation is an opportunity for me to find out more about you and what you would like to achieve from our hypnotherapy sessions. It is also a chance for me to explain a bit about how the brain works and how hypnotherapy can help you begin to make real changes in your life. This is the only session that doesn’t include an element of relaxation/trance.

Follow up sessions tend to be weekly and consist of solution focused talking therapy followed by a relaxing yet powerful trance session to help bring about the positive changes that you’d like to achieve.

Successful hypnotherapy does involve commitment from your part – to come regularly to our sessions, to listen to the relaxation audio in between sessions and to the possibility of change.
